Christmas Workshop with Sarments: creativity and tradition among vineyards

Taller Nadalenc amb sarments al Celler Fargas-Fargas, participants creant arbres de Nadal entre vinyes al Bages.

Last November 30, Fargas-Fargas Winery (DO Pla de Bages) awoke to that winter calm that invites one to take a breath and start the day without rush. Among vineyards dormant from the first frosts, the group arrived eager to experience one of those wine tourism experiences that connect tradition, creativity, and territory. The few drops that fell early in the morning made some people question their outerwear, but the sunrise eventually warmed up the day.

With the vineyard still covered in dew, we went out with pruning shears in hand, following Quim’s instructions. It was a simple yet powerful moment: collecting vine shoots carefully, respecting the vines and understanding the cycle that gives them life. A small gesture that marked the beginning of a workshop full of authenticity and craftsmanship.

Once the vine shoots were gathered, the pace changed. The basket weaver Joan Vilageliu was waiting to open the doors to an ancient craft for us, explaining techniques passed down from generation to generation. A small universe of wicker and vine shoots, shapes and patience that surprised the group with its simplicity and depth.

Joan, with his calm demeanor, and Quim, with the gaze of someone who loves the vineyard, shaped a morning that combined heritage, creativity, and closeness. And, as always in Bages, wine was also a protagonist: this time, the Negre Jove Fargas-Fargas, which helped unleash creativity and ideas.

The pieces we created followed this order:

  • Christmas Wreath, with a rustic feel and perfect for welcoming guests home.
  • Christmas Tree, with a wicker base and decorations made from freshly collected vine shoots.

Between sips of wine and small snacks, the group let their creativity flow. Some pieces turned out more spontaneous, others more meticulous, but all full of a personal touch capable of bringing smiles.

A morning of conversation, calm, and shared moments. Couples, families, friends, and Christmas lovers created a warm and pleasant atmosphere, the kind that makes you want to repeat it.
